لا بد من مكان ينتهي إليه هذا الرصيف
ويبدأ منه الطريق،
ينمو هناك العشب غضاً، أبيضا،
و الشمس تتقد بإشراقة قرمزيةَ،
حيث يرتاح طائر القمر من تحليقه
ليبترد في الرياح المحملة بعطر النعناع.
لنهجر هذا المكان حيث يتصاعد الدخان أسودا
ويلتف الشارع المظلم ويدور.
خلف الحُفَر حيث تنمو أزهار الأسفلت
سنمشي بخطوات متباطئة وموزونة،
ونرقب وجهة أسهم الطباشير البيضاء
حيث نهايات الرصيف.
نعم سنمشي بخطوات متباطئة و موزونة،
و سنمضي حيث تأخذنا أسهم الطباشير البيضاء،
لأجل الأطفال، الذين يبصرون، والأطفال، الذين يعرفون
المكان الذي ينتهي فيه الرصيف.

Where the Sidewalk Ends
There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And there the moon-bird rests from his flight
To cool in the peppermint wind.
